Early life
Mark Strong was born on 5th August of 1963 in the largest and capital city called London in England. His given birth name was Marco Giuseppe Salussolia, before changing to his current name by his mother. He was born to Giuseppe A. Salussolia, an Italian, while his mother, Waltraud D. Salussolia, was Austrian. His mother raised him, and that he moved from place to place during his childhood as his mother was au pair.
Strong started getting interested in acting in his early teens, although a French actor must have triggered his early childhood interests. He eventually joined the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, aiming to become a lawyer. But soon after a year of studying, he dropped his university to move into an acting career professionally. Mark Strong made his film debut in 1993, making his small appearance in the film Century as a policeman. He dropped a major role in 1998 as Dave Summers in the Spanish-British film The Man with Rain in His Shoes. He then continued appearing in other films like Elephant Juice, To End All Wars, Hotel, Heartlands, It’s All About Love, and others, finally playing a notable role as Prince Septimus in the romantic fantasy adventure film Stardust in 2007.
In 2008, he appeared in the action thriller film Body of Lies as Hani Salaam, for which he earned his first London Film Critics Circle Award nomination. In 2009, he dropped another major role in mystery action film Sherlock Holmes as Lord Henry Blackwood, and his role in the film Kick-Ass as Frank D’Amico in 2010 earned him MTV Movie Award nomination.
In 2011, he made his breakthrough after playing the role of Jim Prideaux in a Cold War spy thriller film called Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. His performance won him the Central Ohio Film Critics Association Award, Georgia Film Critics Association Award, and YouMovie Award for Best Cast in 2011.
In 2014, he starred in the film Closer to the Moon, earning him a nomination, and the same year, he won Palm Springs International Film Festival Award for Best Ensemble for his performance in the film, The Imitation Game. His other films are Kingman, Shazam, 1917, etc.
