Early Life
Mia Wasikowska was born to mother Marsena Wasikowska and father John Reid on the date of October 25, 1989. Her mother and father both are photographers. Her mother was born in Poland. She has two siblings; a younger brother named Kai and an older sister named Jess. Mia and her family moved to Poland when she was eight years old. They stayed in Szczecin for a year from 1998. They moved to Poland after her mother received a grant to produce work based on her emigration experience from Poland to Australia. Mia and her siblings actively participated in the project and often posed as subjects. Her mother would take candid shots of them just being themselves and doing their things.
Mia started studying ballet at Canberra Dance Development Centre at the age of nine. She wanted to be a professional and she practiced 35 hours a week. She danced till 9 PM at night. However, she quit ballet at the age of fourteen due to a spur on her heel and dissatisfaction with the world and chasing physical perfection.
Mia Wasikowska loved watching films as a kid and had ample exposure to Australian and European films. She was mesmerized by Krzysztof Kieślowski’s “Three Colours” trilogy and she loved “My Brilliant Career” by Gillian Armstrong. She was inspired to pursue acting after watching “The Piano” and “A Woman Under Influence”. She applied to more than twenty agencies but only one responded.

Mia Wasikowska’s first acting role was in the Australian soap titled “All Saints” in 2004. She appeared in two episodes of the show.
She made her first film debut with the film “Suburban Mayhem” in 2006 when she was 15 years old. She was nominated for a Young Actor’s AFI Award for her amazing performance.
She played the role of Sherry in the film “Rogue” in 2007. She didn’t speak with anyone on the set and she was nicknamed “Rowdy” due to this.
She was cast in the drama “September” in 2007. She was selected out of more than 200 actresses that had auditioned.
In 2008, the film “I Love Sarah Jane” featured her in the role of Sarah Jane. The film premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and earned her much critical acclaim.
A turning point in her career came when she was seventeen years old. She auditioned for “In Treatment” via videotape and got the role. She left Canberra and moved to LA for three months. She got praised for her excellent performance and her American accent by the critics. She played the role of Sophie for 9 episodes.
She also played the role of Kara in the short film titled “Summer Breaks”. The same year she played the role of Chaya Dzienciwlsky in the film “Defiance”.
In 2009, she played the role of Pamela Choat in the film “That Evening Sun”.
