Ian McShane, whose real name is Ian David McShane, was born on 29 September 1942 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England as the son of his father, Harry McShane, and mother, Irene. His father used to be a professional footballer who had died in 2012. He was the only one child of his parents.

In the year 1960, Ian McShane married actress Suzan Farmer but they divorced in the same year. After that, he lived in a relationship with Sylvia Kristel in 1977. But they end their relationship after they fought with each other which made Kristel fall down the stairs when she was three months pregnant and it causes miscarry.
