His cousins included the late actress Linda Stirling and the late actor Sloan Nibley. In Los Angeles, his father worked as a dentist. He had formed professional connections with a number of people in Hollywood, who assisted Yulin in finding a drama coach.

After graduation from college, he lived in Italy for a certain period of time, pursuing a career as an artist like his friends. He later acknowledged that he was “extremely awful.”

Career and professional life
Besides theatre, Yulin has appeared in dozens of Hollywood films and made for TV movies. He starred alongside William Devane in one of his early films, The Missiles of October. However, he first gained notoriety in the cult Brain De Palma film Scargace (1983) playing a crooked cop who double-crosses Al Pacino’s character.
Yulin has since appeared in a number of well-known films, including Ghostbusters II and Bean (both starring c), Final Analysis (starring Richard Gere and Kim Basinger), The Heart of Justice (starring Dennis Hopper), Clear and Present Danger (starring Joaquim de Almeida, Raymond Cruz, and Benjamin Bratt), Truman (starring Colm Feore and Zeljko Ivanek), Cutthroat Island, If These Walls Could Talk (starring ( with Michelle Forbes).

His more recent projects involved Rush Hour 2, Training Day, and Loving Leah ( with Donnie Keshavarz ). He’s also appeared in two other films with Colm Feore. The Virginian and Hostile Waters. On Television, Yulin has featured on series like Femme Nikita ( with Alberta Walson), WIOU, Wonder Woman, Cagney and Lacey, and Civil Wars among others. He appeared in Star Trek Deep Space Nine, in the acclaimed episode “Duel” together with Alexander Siding.
In the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, he featured Quentin Travers, head of the Watchers Council. With DB Woodside, he worked on the show. After he was featured in 24, he had roles on Mister Sterling ( with Bob Gunton), Entourage ( with Kevin Dillon), Cashmere Mafia ( with Lourdes Benedicta), and more recently, Law and Order ( with Buri Moseley).

During Season 2 of 24, Harris Yulin played NSA Director Roger Stanton. He has a total of nine appearances on the show. However, Yulin is not credited at all throughout his appearances in the series, neither in the opening nor ending credits. This was due to the fact that, with the exception of a few instances, recurrent and guest stars would share screen credits with one or two other actors.
Yulin wanted his name to appear onscreen alone and when this request was not met, he chose not to be credited at all. Stanton is the only recurring character on the program who has gone uncredited for all of his appearances.
