Born on 16th November 1958 in the city Fremont in Nebraska to Mary Kay (mother) and Hugh Helgenberger (father), Marg Helgenberger was raised in another city, North Bend, Nebraska. She went to North Bend Central High School there and graduated from there. Her mother was a nurse, whereas her father worked as a meat inspector.

She is of German and Irish descent. She has two siblings, older sister Ann and younger brother Curt. She was interested in music and used to play the French horn during her high school, being a part of the marching band.

Marg Helgenberger always wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps and became a nurse like her, but it all changed when she started her higher studies. She went to Kearney State College and later attended the School of Speech affiliated with Northwestern University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in speech and drama.

While studying in college, Marg Helgenberger still wasn’t sure what to select her career, but as of her interest and luck, she got a chance to appear on KHGI-TV as a nightly weather presenter. Blessed with skills and incredible luck, she was discovered by a scout during her college performance in the year 1981.

Getting a clearer vision and thinking about the future, she soon went off to New York after graduation. There auditioned for many roles and finally landed on the part of Siobhan Ryan for the TV show Ryan Hope in 1982. Getting positive reviews for her performance, she worked in the front until 1986. Later in 1987, she appeared in the comedy show Shell Game as Natalie Thayer.

During the late 1980s, she played the perfect role of a savvy prostitute in China Beach. With that fabulous performance, she was able to secure the Emmy Award in 1990. She lasted in the show until 1991 since 1988.

While filming Ryan’s Hope, Alan Rosenberg appeared in the movie as a guest actor, and that’s when Marg Helgenberger met him became close friends since then in 1984. Soon upgrading their friendship and getting too close, they started dating in 1986. After a few years of a good relationship, they got married in 1989 and were blessed with a son in 1990. Later due to some misunderstanding and stuff, she filed for divorce in 2009, March, and legally separated in February 2010.

Her mother had breast cancer, and seeing her fight against it for 27 years was hard for her, so she planned to get involved in breast cancer-related charity work along with Rosenberg since 1999. They also started hosting a charity program called Marg and Alan’s Celebrity Weekend every year.
