Early life
Salman Khan was born on December 26, 1985, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. He is the eldest son of screenwriter Selim Khan and his first wife, Sushila Charak. Salman’s father, Selim Khan, is known as an actor and screenwriter, but at one time, he was a police officer. Selim married Sushila in 1984. Salman was born the following year. At birth, he was named Abdur Rashid Selim Salman Khan. His ancestry was a present from his father’s Pakistan’s Swat Valley alakojai Pashtuns, who immigrated to Indore in Madhya Pradesh in the mid-1800s. His grandfather, Abdul Rashid Khan, was the Deputy Inspector General of the State of Indore, who won the Dillar Jang Award during the Holkar.
Salman Khan’s mother was from Maharashtra. Selim-Sushila couple has four children, two other sons, actor and producer Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, and a daughter, producer, and costume designer Alvira Khan Agnihotri, who married actor and director Atul Agnihotri.
Career
Salman Khan started his acting career in Bollywood in 1988 with the film Bibi Ho To Aisi. His second and first starring role was in Suraj Barajatya’s romantic drama Maine Pyaar Kiya in 1989. The film was the highest-grossing Indian film of the time. He was nominated for a 35th Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance in the movie. Main Pyar Kiya film in English. The following year, he starred in three films – Patthar Ke Phool, Sanam Bewafa, and Qurban, which did moderate business. In 1995, Salman Khan starred opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rakesh Roshan’s Karan Arjun. They play the role of two brothers who were killed and reborn by two family enemies. He was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his role as Karan in the film. The following year, he starred in Sanjay Leela Vonsali’s debut film Khamoshi: The Musical.
