Where was Linda born and raised?
Linda Yu was born in 1946, on December 1. She was born in Xian, China. She had moved to Hong Kong with her family at the age of three and later transferred to the United States of America in 1951. Linda usually spoke only Mandarin and know just two words of English (Hello and Thank You).
Linda has not shared detailed information about her parents and siblings. Still, she lived in Pennsylvania for four years and Indiana for two. Later, she settled in California when Yu was only 12 years old. Yu has completed her high school level education from the local high school near her hometown regarding her educational background regarding her educational background. After that, she has graduated from the University Of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 1968.
How did Linda start her Career?
Linda Yu started her career in 1970 as a broadcaster, where Yu has worked as a writer and director for KTLA-TV in Los Angeles and later worked as a writer for ABC O&O KABC-TV in Los Angeles. After that, she moved to Portland, Oregon, where she had a brief stint as a reporter for KATU-TV. After a few months in Oregon, Linda returned to California, where she worked as a general assignment journalist and back-up anchor for ABC O&O KGO-TV in San Francisco, where Yu has worked till 1979.
She has also helped introduce state legislation to protect residents from uninsured motorists in August 1977. In 1979, Linda moved to Chicago and started working at NBC’s WMAQ-TV in June. Linda has started her career at the station as a general assignment reporter and weekend co-anchor. She had also worked as co-anchor on the 4:30 and 10 pm newscasts with Ron Magers in February 1980.
Linda Yu has also received an Emmy award for a particular newscast in 1981, on March 30, the elimination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. After that, she has received her second Emmy Award the following years for her work and report of a construction incident in Chicago’s downtown Loop. She has also been disturbed with WMAQ-TV’s management, ending her five-year career with the station in March 1984. Linda has also joined the WLS-TV (ABC 7 Chicago) station as co-anchor of the station’s 4 pm newscast, mostly with news anchor Joel Daly until his retirement in 2005.
Yu has also served as co-anchor for the 30-minute 11:30 am newscast with Sylvia Perez, which began in 1992 until the now hour-long 11 am newscast was canceled in 2013. She has received the Emmy for Outstanding Achievement within a Regularly Scheduled News Program, Spot Coverage, in 1987. Linda and Perez are the first women in the Chicago market to co-anchor a newscast.

Retirement
Linda Yu has announced her retirement from WLS-TV and TV news after 46 years in News and 37 years in the Chicago market in 2016, on September 6. Her last news broadcast was on November 23 at 4 pm.
Married Life
Linda Yu has tied a knot with Dr. Richard Baer, a psychiatrist, in 1982, on June 12 at St. James Cathedral in Chicago. When their honeymoon, the duo has to be involved in an auto accident in Southern France, which resulted in Baer being admitted to hospital due to a mild concussion.
Linda and Baer got separated in 1996. Linda broke her leg in a motor vehicle accident in January 2014.
