Early Life
Lakeith Stanfield was born on 12th August 1991 in San Bernardino, the southern part of California. But he grew up in another city, Victor Valley, and was relocated to Riverside later on. He explained that his family was impoverished, and he had to work hard to support his family. And he also said that his parents were separated and didn’t get much care during childhood.
Keith decided to get into an acting career when he was just 14, and later that year, he joined high school’s drama club. Lakeith Stanfield was looking forward to entering the film industry; he wanted to learn more. So he joined John Casablancas Modeling and Career Center located in Los Angeles. During his time there, he was spotted by some agency and was signed for commercials.

Lakeith Stanfield started auditioning while he was in the Career Center and finally got his first role in the short film named Short Term. That film was a thesis project at San Diego State University by Destin Daniel Cretton. The film’s concept was mind-blowing, and their actions were so perfect that the film won Jury Award for U.S. Short Filmmaking at the event of the Sundance Film Festival in 2009. He worked in another short movie in 2010, Gimme Grace.
After that, Lakeith Stanfield gave up acting for some years because the capital he earned with it wasn’t enough for, and he had to work somewhere else too. That’s why he started working as a gardener, worked for company AT&T and he also worked in a legal marijuana dispensary. But that all end when Cretton reached him again and asked him to play a role in featured movies adapted from Short Term 12 in 2013. It was his first movie. While shooting this movie, he practiced method acting, a range of rehearsal where he kept himself away from others the same as his role.
At the South by Southwest film festival in 2013, the movie again won Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature. His devotion to the movie was also listed for Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male Character but didn’t win.
A year after that, Lakeith Stanfield started working in biographical movies. He played the role of Jimmie Lee Jackson, a civil rights activist in the film Selma. He appeared in a dystopian action horror film The Purge: Anarchy. In 2015, he also starred in King Ripple, a fantasy horror film by Luke Jaden. Stanfield got a chance to portray the character of rapper Snoop Dogg in the biographical film Straight Outta Campton. We all known Death note, a Japanese fantasy thriller manga which has a fantastic storyline. Stanfield got a chance to play a genius protagonist, L, in the adaptation of Death Note for Netflix in 2017.
Lakeith Stanfield also starred in some music videos such as Close Your Eyes by Run the Jewels and even in Cold Little Heart by British singer Michael Kiwanuka. In 2018 he played in dark and horror films. Get out and Sorry to Bother You. He can adapt to the variation of character in the movies; that’s what makes him different. As of 2019, he played the role of Nate Davis in the romantic film Someone Great by Netflix.
