Emily Beecham and Her Career
1984-2006 – Childhood and Training
Emily Beecham was born in Manchester, the UK to an English father and an American mother, originally from Arizona. In 2003, then 18 years old, she entered the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), in French “London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art”, from which she graduated three years later.
In 2006, while she had not completed her training at LAMDA, she accepted a leading role in the thriller Bon Voyage, written by Oliver Brown and directed by John Fawcett1: a couple, played by Ben Miles and Rachael Blake, take their two children on vacation to a campsite in France and realize they are being spied on by another couple, played by Fay Ripley and Daniel Ryan. The film won the Golden Nymph for best mini-series at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival in June 20072.
2007-2016 – National recognition
In mid-2007, she was chosen by British director Jan Dunn for the lead role in her independent film: The Calling. She plays the young Joanna who decides, against the advice of her family and friends, to enter the cloistered order of the Benedictines. For this role, she received the Best Actress award at the London Independent Film Festival, as well as the Most Promising Actress award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2009, presented by Sean Connery.
That same year, Emily Beecham performed for the first time on a professional stage, in Ian McHugh’s How To Curse, directed by Josie Rourke at the Bush Theater, located in London’s Shepherd’s Bush district.
She appears, over the years, in different television series: Miss Marple, Tess of The D’Urbervilles, and The Street. She is listed as one of the 55 “faces of the future” by Nylon magazine, in an issue devoted to “Young Hollywood”.
