Early Life

The Eldest daughter of Robert DeWitt Blanchett Jr and June Blanchett, Cate Blanchett, was born on 14 May 1969. Cate was born in Melbourne, Australia. Her mother was a teacher and property developer, and her father was a Navy who worked in the US Navy and later worked as an advertising executive. She also has one elder brother and a younger sister. Her sister is a theatrical designer, and her brother is a computer system engineer. Blanchett went to Ivanhoe East Primary School. Cate lost her dad at the early age of 10 due to heart failure.

Cate Blanchett completed her high school in Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School and went on to join Methodist Ladies’ College. Blanchett joined the University of Melbourne. She dropped out only a year after. She also used to work at a nursing home during her late teen and early 20s. Later on, she joined the National Institute of Dramatic Art and completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1992.

1992 was the start of Cate’s career after her first stage play ‘Oleanna’ for Sydney theater. The same year she played in ‘Sophocles Electrher, which was loved by the National Institute of Drama Arts (NIDA). She received two awards a year later as best newcomer and best actress by Sydney theater for Kafka Dances and Oleanna. Cate also played the role of ‘Ophelia’ in the drama ‘Hamlet.’ Blanchett appeared in the episodes of TV series ‘Heartland,’ ‘Bordertown,’ ‘Parklands,’ and ‘Police Rescue.’

Cate Blanchett is currently living in East Sussex, England, with her husband, Andrew Upton. They met in the year 1996 on a TV show set. Andrew is a screenwriter/ playwright. They got married on 29 December 1997. The Australian couple has three sons Dashiell John Upton, Roman Robert Upton, Ignatius Martin Upton. They also have one daughter named Edith Vivian Patricia Upton, who is adopted. They first lived in Brighton, England, for nearly ten years and then moved back to Australia in 2006 to be closer to her family.

The family lived in the Sydney suburb of Hunters Hill. After nearly ten years in Australia, they moved back to England again. Blanchett is also a feminist, Environmental, and Humanitarian activist. Blanchett is also a patron of the Australian Pavilion and Australian Film Institute.
