On March 21, 1991, the Pittsburgh Pirates signed Loaiza as a free agent. In 1991, he pitched five games for the Gulf Coast Pirates in the Rookie League, aged 51, with a 2.26 ERA. Finally, he spent the 1993 season with the Mexican Summer League’s Mexico City Red Devils.
From then on, his career took off, and he eventually made it to the major leagues. In 1992, he was promoted to August (Class A), Salem (Class A), and Caroline (Class AA) in subsequent years.
He also agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington National. However, He was able to get the deal as a free agent. He pitched for the Washington Nationals in 2005 and had a 3.77 ERA. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Esteban Loaiza was a household name in Major League Baseball (MLB).
