Early Life

He was born as Peter Hayden Dinklage to John and Diane Dinklage on 11th June 1969 in New Jersey. His father used to work at an insurance firm while his mother was a music teacher. He was born with achondroplasia, a genetic disorder and a form of dwarfism. He was the only dwarf in his family. He, along with his older brother, Jonathon, used to perform musicals in their neighborhood. His first acting role was in the school theater production of “The Velveteen Rabbit” when he was in the fifth grade.

Peter Dinklage completed his high school studies from Delbarton High School in the late 1980s. He then attended Bennington College and graduated with a degree in drama studies in 1991. He was part of several plays during his high school and college years. His brother Jonathon has a great passion for the violin and is a violinist for “Hamilton.”

After his graduation, he moved to New York to pursue a career in acting. During his initial days, he struggled to find a role cause everyone wants him to play a dwarf character’s part, which he did not want to perform.

In Film

Peter Dinklage made his film debut from the low-budget comedy-drama “Living in Oblivion” as Tito in 1995. The film, directed by Tom DiCillo, was made with a budget of $500 thousand and grossed over $1 million in the commercial market. His appearance in the 1996 crime drama “Bullet” went uncredited.  He then made appearances in “Safe Men,” “Never Again,” “13 Moons,” and a few others from 1998 to 2002.

In 2003, he got his breakthrough after getting featured as Finbar McBride in the comedy-drama “The Station Agent.” The film was made with a budget of $500 thousand and grossed over $8 million. It was also received positively by the critics.
