Andy Williams grew up working as a radio host and went on to have his own Emmy Award-winning show, The Andy Williams Show. William’s albums sold over one million copies, with the single Moon River and Days of Wine and Roses selling more than two million copies.
In 1953, he started his solo career and recorded six sides for RCA Victor’s label “X,” but none was a famous hit. After that, he landed a spot as a regular on Tonight, Starring Steve Allen, in 1954. After that, Andy was signed to a recording contract with Cadence Records, a small label in New York run by conductor Archie Bleyer. His third single, Canadian Sunset, reached number seven in the top 10 in August 1956; it was followed in February 1957 by his only Billboard number-one hit, Butterfly, a cover of a Charlie Gracie record.
Andy Williams’s album Days of Wine and Roses was listed at the top of the album charts, and he spent 16 weeks there in 1963. From 1962 to 1972, he was one of the most famous vocalists in the country and was signed to the biggest recording contract in history. In 1966, on August 5, the 14-story, 700-room PinUp casino, and nightclub opened in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the stage production of “Rome Swings,” in which Williams starred. Noelle Williams’s father dead
Andy Williams announced that he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer in November 2011. After chemotherapy treatment in Houston, his wife and Andy moved to a rented home in Malibu, California, to be closer to cancer specialists in the Los Angeles area.
In 2012, Andy died of bladder cancer at 84 at his home in Branson, Missouri. He was buried and sprinkled his ashes into the Moon River artificial waterway at his theater in Branson.
