Early Life and Family

Hugh Grant was born on September 9, 1960, in London, England. His mother, Fynvola Susan MacLean, taught languages and music for more than thirty years. His father, James Murray Grant, served as an army officer before running a carpet business.

He has an older brother named James Grant, known as Jamie, who worked as an investment banker in New York. As a child, he spent summers fishing and shooting with his grandfather in Scotland.

Grant attended several schools in London, including Wetherby School and Latymer Upper School. He earned a scholarship to Latymer Upper School, where he played rugby, cricket, and football. At New College, Oxford, he won the Galsworthy scholarship and studied English literature.
