Robert Dempster Pretty’s mother, Edith Pretty, was born in Elland, Yorkshire. Robert’s grandparents Elizabeth and Robert Dempster were wealthy industrialists who amassed their fortune from manufacturing equipment related to the gas industry.

Finally, on June 14, 1988, Robert left this earth in Boldre Lymington Hants. When Martin Carver and his team dug around the Tranmer House at Sutton Hoo, they found a toy spade, pair of Robert’s roller skates buried near the site.

Robert Dempster Pretty inherited his family property after the death of his mother. His mother, Edith, and her sister Elizabeth inherited more than £500,000 – about £16 million in 2006 after her father died in Cape Town during a visit to South Africa in 1925.
